The National Standards for Involving Volunteers in Not for Profit Organisations promote a model of best practice in volunteer involvement. The National Standards were developed by Volunteering Australia through a consultation process with volunteer-involving organisations of all sizes and types and volunteers themselves over the course of several years.

As part of the Commonwealth's CALD Implementation Project, the State Volunteer Centres have assisted the Australian Multicultural Foundation, Judith Miralles & Associates, and Volunteering Australia with developing a Training Program and Manual to help not-for-profits with recruiting and supporting volunteers from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. The training manual consists of an introductory section for trainers, and the following four training modules: 1. Planning 2. Recruitment 3. Welcome & Orientation of volunteers 4. Supporting Volunteers
