SUMMARY:Family Services Conference
DESCRIPTION: \nThe focus of the event will be on delivering family services in regional and remote settings with presentations on trauma\, brain development and neurosciences discoveries\, childhood development\, family violence\, cultural competency\, judicial systems\, working with men\, self-care and wellbeing in the workplace. \nThe conference will have a strong rural focus\, with the aim of increasing accessibility to high quality speakers in a regional centre. \nThe conference will be held at Goonoo Goonoo Station\, a completely restored 19th century village. The venue has boutique\, award winning accommodation with the attached Glasshouse restaurant also winning numerous architectural and restoration awards. A networking dinner will be held at the Glasshouse restaurant on September 24\, with Judge Jo Harman delivering a presentation on the night. \nGuest Speakers include:\nNathan Wallis – Host of the documentary “All in the Mind”\, and co-host of the TV Series “The Secret life of Girls”\,\nNathan Wallis\, Aotearoa’s renowned neuroscience educator\, has been captivating audiences over 250 times per year to sell out events in New Zealand\, Australia\, & China. Nathan’s training reflects the latest neuroscience discoveries and their practical implications for everyday practice. \nJudge Harman – Judge Harman was appointed to the Federal Circuit Court in 2010. Judge Harman has 25 years’ experience in the legal sector\, in community practice and as a university lecturer. Judge Harman has been the recipient of numerous awards including the NSW Premier’s Stop Domestic Violence Award and a finalist for the Australian Human Rights Commission Law Award and National Children’s Lawyer of the Year Award. \nMichelle Swan – Michelle Swan is an internationally known autistic Australian writer\, speaker\, resource developer\, mentor\, and neurodiversity rights advocate. Through centring the voices of neurodivergent people in conversations about neurodiversity\, she encourages real understanding of their experiences and appropriate ways to support them. \nStuart McMinn – Stuart McMinn is cultural man whose heritage comes from the Dharug and Waka Waka people. Stuart handles the development of cultural competency programs for Interrelate staff throughout NSW. Stuart has spent many years working with Aboriginal communities throughout NSW and continues to develop programs that are born out of community. \nMore speakers will present over the two days on a range of topics. \nDownload the program here \n
