SUMMARY:Managing Challenging Behaviours
DESCRIPTION:Learn strategies to defuse difficult situations\, manage intense emotions and move towards positive solutions.\nEveryone gets frustrated or angry on occasion\, particularly when they’re under pressure. Most of the time\, they deal with their anger and frustrations in socially acceptable and appropriate ways. It’s important\, however\, to know how to respond when people behave in challenging ways. \nThis workshop will share strategies to defuse situations where clients\, colleagues or community members are exhibiting strong emotions and/or difficult behaviours. We’ll also discuss how to understand your own triggers and have ways to manage your own emotions when using these strategies. \nWhat you’ll learn\nAt the end of this workshop\, you’ll be able to: \n\nrecognise early warning signs of escalating emotions in others and take steps to prevent conflicts from intensifying.\nidentify and address personal emotional triggers that may impact your response\, ensuring calm and professional interactions in challenging situations\nunderstand how and why people react both physically and emotionally to difficult situations\napply strategies to help others manage their emotions\nuse effective communication skills\narticulate and apply conflict management strategies\ndemonstrate an understanding of how to monitor your own reactions and practise self-care.\n\nWho is this workshop for?\nA range of workers in community organisations\, social services\, schools or businesses working with clients or colleagues demonstrating challenging behaviours and emotions. \nAbout the presenter\nJeff Roberts is a clinical psychologist with more than 15 years’ experience in counselling and mental health settings across Australia and internationally. Jeff specialises in men’s health and is also experienced working with LGBTIQA+ communities on a range of different issues including depression\, anxiety\, sexual health and interpersonal issues. He is highly experienced in performing IQ\, personality and memory testing.
