DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\n\nAbout the course\nBecome endorsed as a qualified parenting coordinator and enhance your skills in child-focused management and dispute resolution. \nThis interactive\, practical training is designed to equip eligible* family law\, mental health and family dispute resolution (FDR) practitioners with the knowledge and skills to practise as parenting coordinators. The training is also highly beneficial for professionals who work in related family and child-focused fields but do not meet the eligibility criteria outlined below to practise as parenting coordinators. \nAll participants will gain and have the opportunity to practice skills for use in day-to-day work with parents and families. Our highly skilled and experienced trainers include Australian and international professionals with expertise in parenting coordination. \nAll participants will receive a comprehensive training manual. \nThis course is an Australian Counselling Association (ACA) Ongoing Professional Development (OPD) event. OPD is the process through which members improve and broaden their skills\, knowledge and expertise\, and develop the qualities required for professional practice. \n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\nEligibility to practise as a parenting coordinator\nThe course is open to anyone wanting to learn about the parenting coordination process. \nPlease note that to qualify as a parenting coordinator at the end of the course\, however\, you must meet both of the following criteria. \n\nYou must be a mental health or family law professional (with at least 5 years’ experience)\, or certified and qualified FDR practitioner in accordance with the Family Law Act 1975.\nYou must have training and experience in FDR and/or mediation\, and extensive practical professional experience with family cases involving high-conflict co-parenting dynamics.\n\nIndividuals who meet these criteria and successfully complete this 4-day course will be offered endorsement as a qualified parenting coordinator and have their name listed on the Pacifica Congress parenting coordinators register. \n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\nWhat is parenting coordination? \nParenting coordination is a child-focused management and dispute resolution process\, that is facilitated by a mental health or legal practitioner with training and experience in FDR or mediation. The practitioner assists parents and families in compromised and/or high-conflict situations to create and maintain healthy relationships with their children\, where it is safe and reasonable to do so. \nThe practice of parenting coordination helps practitioners to: \n\nmanage parenting plans and support parents with compliance with court orders\nhelp parents manage minor disputes related to their children\nenhance their conflict management and communication skills\, and make effective decisions in order to effectively assist clients\ntake a child-centred approach with a focus on the best interests of children’s\nsupport family relationships\, where appropriate.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\nLearning outcomes\nDuring our 4-day intensive course\, you’ll: \n\nenhance your conflict-management and communication skills\nlearn how to take a child-focused approach to assist separating families\nparticipate in role-plays to build confidence in your work supported by supervisors and advice by qualified trainers\nbe introduced to academic research and recent articles relevant to the field\n\nFollowing successful completion of the course\, you’ll gain the certification and endorsement required to practice as a parenting coordinator\, subject to the eligibility outlined above. \n  \n\nPresenters\nPrimary presenter – Lilia Szarski\nChild and Family Psychologist M.Ed(Psychology)\, MAPS\, FDR Practitioner\, PC.\nClinical Educator and Supervisor\, Relationships Australia Victoria \nLilia Szarski was a family report writer in the Family Court for nearly 30 years. She provided clinical supervision to a team of professionally trained mediators and psychologists\, and was responsible for quality assurance of services and team performance. As a psychologist with expertise in family and child dispute resolution\, court-ordered counselling\, and child-inclusive practice\, Lilia has appeared as an expert witness in many family law cases. She is a member of the Australian Psychological Society\, International Association of Family and Youth Courts\, International Association of Family and Conciliation Courts and the International Association of Applied Psychologists. \n  \nPresenter – Amanda Graham\nAmanda Graham is an Accredited Family Law Specialist and the Principal of AjG family law\, a boutique firm dedicated to supporting all families through separation. \nAmanda Graham commenced legal practice in 2000 and has practised exclusively in family law throughout her career\, becoming an Accredited Family Law Specialist in 2007. She is a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Law at Monash University and supervises students in the Juris Doctor in the clinical practice programs family law stream. She has supervised student research on Parenting Coordination since 2021\, both in relation to the Australian legal landscape and ethical issues arising for Parenting Coordinators. She is currently undertaking her Masters in Law. She is dedicated to supporting all families through separation\, and in particular children in her capacity as an Independent Childrens’ Lawyer. \n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\nRegistration information\n\nWhen you register\, you’ll be taken to our payment gateway to complete your registration.
