SUMMARY:Workshop: Introduction to Couple Therapy
DESCRIPTION:Enhance your knowledge for working effectively in the emotionally-charged field of couple therapy.\nThis stand-alone workshop introduces an integrated therapeutic framework for working with couples in counselling or therapy\, including how to work within the context of a couple relationship when only one partner is present. \nWorkshop concepts assimilate Neurobiology\, Psychodynamic\, Systemic and Integrated Behavioural Marital theories\, and are illustrated using a combination of case examples\, DVD demonstrations and presentation slides. \nYou will have the opportunity to ask questions\, share your own experiences in providing couple counselling or therapy and discuss workshop concepts in collaborative small group settings. \nOutcomes\nOn completion of this workshop\, you will be able to: \n\ndevelop your thinking about problematic couple dynamics\, using an integrated theoretical perspective\nunderstand the implications of recent neuro-scientific discoveries for couple therapy\nappreciate the challenges involved in working with couple difficulties when only one partner is present.\n\nThis workshop is also a great introduction for those thinking of applying to Relationships Australia Victoria’s Specialist Course in Couple Therapy\, or Swinburne University’s Master of Social Science (Couple Counselling) at the second year level. \nIdeal for\nExperienced counsellors\, psychologists and post-graduate students. \nAbout the presenter\nPenny Evans is an experienced trainer\, couple therapist with 30 years’ experience and has a background in family therapy. \nPreviously\, Penny worked for 17 years with Relationships Australia Victoria (RAV)\, including as Professional Education Manager. In this position\, she played a key role in developing and delivering our Specialist Course in Couple Therapy and related internship\, as well as other couple counselling training programs. Penny also coordinated the Masters in Couple and Relationship Counselling\, delivered by RAV in partnership with the Bouverie Centre (La Trobe University). \nShe currently works in private practice\, providing couple counselling and clinical supervision\, in addition to teaching at RAV\, the Bouverie Centre and other organisations including the Australian Psychological Society. \n
