SUMMARY:GROUP LEADERSHIP TRAINING COURSE (6-days)
DESCRIPTION:The NSW Institute of Group Leaders consists of an expert working group of specialists in the field of group leadership. It is a non-profit organisation that aims to increase the knowledge and skills of group leaders operating in a wide variety of settings. \nThe Group Leadership Training Course is a 6-day experiential course that includes knowledge\, skills and experiences deemed necessary for general competency of group workers. Core training is considered a prerequisite for advanced practice in group work. The module examines the scope of practice\, types of group work\, group development\, group processes and dynamics\, group leadership\, and standards of training and practice for group workers. \nThe module is based on an international set of standards for group work\, which were developed by the Association for Specialists in Group Work Professional Training Standards for the Training of Group Workers (USA). Completion of this module allows the student to achieve accredited membership of the Institute of Group Leaders Co-op Ltd (Australia). Training includes observation\, participation and analysis of the learning group and the completion of some written assignments. SUMMARY:Working Therapeutically with People who have Complex Trauma Histories - Blue Knot Foundation
DESCRIPTION:This two day interactive professional development training provides the knowledge and practice framework to enable practitioners to establish safe\, supportive\, therapeutic relationships with people affected by abuse\, neglect and/or attachment trauma. Over the two days the research evidence and practice approaches most likely to contribute to your clients long term recovery will be explored\, as well as opportunities provided to workshop these practice approaches using real life scenarios. \nComplex trauma is characterised by an array of adaptive responses to chronic and significant traumas of omission and commission. The collective evidence from neuroscientific advances\, the voices of victims/survivors\,  experienced clinicians and many service providers attest to the importance of a ‘lived experience’ understanding of the difficulties/symptoms/problems and adaptive coping strategies of people with complex trauma histories. \nConceptualising many presenting difficulties as adaptive responses or ‘normal responses to abnormal situations’ increases the empathy\, understanding and insight needed to effectively work therapeutically with people. \nThis training builds understanding\, knowledge and skills around the impacts of trauma on mind\, body and emotions as well as to adaptive responses. It also integrates advances in neuroscience\, lived experience and clinical wisdom to help build the capabilities of those attending to work compassionately and effectively with this client group.
