SUMMARY:Dyadic Developmental Practice\, Brisbane
DESCRIPTION:It is an approach that: \nIntegrates recent research in the areas of neurobiology of trauma\, early child development and attachment theory\, to produce a therapeutic and parenting approach that assists professionals to understand and effectively support children with trauma- attachment problems\, and their families \nCommunicates playfulness\, acceptance\, curiosity and empathy (PACE) in order to help the child regulate their feelings (often fear\, shame and anger) associated with past experiences and to create together new meanings to be integrated into the child’s life story (autobiographical narrative). \nRecognises the vital role which adoptive parents\, foster carers and residential workers play in the recovery of traumatised\, attachment-resistant children. \nProvides a set of principles that can support networks; inform and enrich parenting; and can support the child outside of the home eg. in residential settings and at school \nThis introductory 28-hour training course is relevant to professionals and therapists who have experience in communicating with and working therapeutically with children and young people and their families. It is focused on families and residential care homes when children have experienced past developmental trauma and have associated attachment difficulties. Principles and interventions are presented through formal discussion\, case examples\, videotape of therapy sessions\, role-play\, and hand-outs. This course is part of the pre-requisites to becoming a certified DDP practitioner. A MAXIMUM of 24 participants is permitted. \nBy the end of this course participants will understand: \nThe impact of secure developmental attachment on neurological\, affective\, cognitive\, and behavioural development \nHow developmental trauma (abuse and neglect) create insecure and disorganised attachment patterns which impede normal development \nPrinciples of psychotherapy\, effective communication and parenting that facilitate the development of attachment security \nSpecific strategies of parenting and communication that facilitate the development of a secure attachment and help children integrate past trauma and abusive experiences \nHow the caregiver’s attachment history and attachment patterns can be important factors when providing care for children who have experienced developmental trauma. \nKim Golding is a Clinical Psychologist whose influential work has contributed to improved support for foster\, adoptive and residential parents\, schools and the range of professionals supporting children growing up in care or in adoptive families. She has authored several books including Creating Loving Attachments\, which she co-wrote with Dan Hughes. As a board member of the Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy Institute she accredits and trains professionals in the approach in the UK and speaks about this work internationally as a leading voice on children with attachment difficulties. \n

SUMMARY:Trauma-Informed Care and Practice - Blue Knot Foundation
DESCRIPTION:This one-day interactive professional development training provides attendees with the knowledge and skills to\, better inform them about\, and be sensitive to the possibility of past and present traumas in clients and staff\, and the vulnerabilities which accompany them. \nA significant percentage of Australians live with the ongoing effects of unresolved trauma. To minimise the risks of re-traumatisation and enhance possibilities for recovery it is vital that every person working in health or human services acquires a basic understanding of trauma\, trauma dynamics and the core principles of trauma-informed practice. \nThis training helps attendees to ask the question: “What happened to you?” and reformulate traditional approaches to service provision. Grounded in the latest research it presents the importance of ‘working with’ rather than ‘doing to’ clients\, of collaborative relationships\, of client and staff safety and of a strengths-based approach. The training facilitates a trauma-informed lens which views many ‘symptoms’ as adaptive or ‘normal responses to abnormal situations’. Importantly this training will provide participants with insights and tools to foster hope and possibilities for recovery\, enhance client and staff wellbeing and minimise the risks of re-traumatisation. \nAt the session’s completion participants will be better able to: \n\nDemonstrate knowledge of the types\, prevalence and diverse impacts of trauma\nDemonstrate knowledge of the principles and importance of implementing trauma-informed practice into services\nDemonstrate knowledge of the stress response on the body and brain in relation to emotional regulation and arousal\nDemonstrate an understanding of challenging emotions and behaviours as ‘adaptive’ responses to trauma\nApply a trauma-informed strengths-based framework\, including an audit\, to individual/organisational practice to minimise re-traumatisation and support recovery\nAcquire trauma-informed strategies for supporting emotional regulation and safety\n\nMaterial presented in the training will draw on research including from Blue Knot Foundation’s Practice Guidelines for Treatment of Complex Trauma and Trauma Informed Care and Service Delivery www.blueknot.org.au/guidelines \nFor more info visit: http://www.blueknot.org.au/Training/Calendar-of-Events/Trauma-Informed-Care-and-Practice \n

DESCRIPTION:The Core Training Day includes all aspects of the Customized Version necessary to enable and accredit the Facilitator to use the material immediately. \nThe fee covers the programmed two day arrangement. It is preferable when the Core and Going Deeper Training days are run consecutively\, that participants attend both days. SUMMARY:Solution Focused Brief Therapy\, Parramatta
DESCRIPTION:Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) offers professionals an efficient\, user-friendly and evidenced based approach that is responsive to the practical realities of working with young people and adults. The role of counsellors\, and other professionals rests largely on the ability to interact with people in ways that emphasises individuals’ strengths/ resources\, identifies possible solutions and supports movement to change. \nWith an emphasis on “what works”\, SFBT focuses on the reality that change is the name of the game. It’s used with clients with anxiety\, depression\, trauma\, disruptive behaviours and a host of other emotional and well-being issues. This popular workshop offers a thorough overview of the approach and covers cases from substance abuse\, trauma\, mental health\, child and adolescent difficulties. \nYou will learn: \n\nWhy the fundamental shift from “problem-driven” to “solution-driven” can dramatically change the outcome of any interaction.\nHow to use cooperative relationships and an individual’s language\, beliefs and preferences to define changeable problems\, and develop highly meaningful and specific goals.\nWhen and how to use a range of techniques and tools; through detailed demonstrations\, skills practice exercises\, discussions and video examples of ACTUAL therapy sessions.\nHow the use of “future-focused” questions\, building on exceptions and reframing of problems\, shifts people away from the problem and towards change.\nWhat the theoretical and philosophical underpinnings of the approach are\, and why the resilience research supports it.\nWhy presenting ideas and interventions as “suggestions” and “experiments” instead of directives can improve the likelihood of clients taking action once they leave your office.\nHow issues such as “risk” fit with the Solution-Focused approach.\n\nMichael Durrant is a psychologist and Australia’s leading international trainer of Solution Focused Brief Therapy. He is director of the Brief Therapy Institute in Sydney\, President of the Australasian Association for Solution-Focused Brief Therapy\, Honorary Associate to the Faculty of Education and Social Work – University of Sydney\, and a visiting faculty\, to the Special Education Program – Fontys University\, The Netherlands. He has published four books and numerous articles\, and is particularly known for the application of Solution-Focused interventions in school and mental health contexts. \n
