SUMMARY:Difficult Conversations-How to Talk to Children and Young People About Almost Anything - Coffs Harbour\, NSW
DESCRIPTION:This one day workshop is for anyone who may have potentially difficult conversations with children and young people. This could include: case managers\, team leaders or direct care staff working with children\, young people and families; carers and workers in foster care or staff in residential care. The difficult conversations could be about: helping the child or young person managing their own difficult feelings; engaging and motivating a young person; responding effectively to the difficult behaviour of a child or young person; answering questions as to why a child or young person is not living with their family; delivering difficult news; supporting a child following a difficult incident or; managing disclosures of abuse among many other possible topics. \nThe workshop will cover: assessing the child or young person’s development level and developmental needs prior to a potentially difficult conversation; a simple structure that is applicable to many difficult conversations with children and young people; the importance of having a positive purpose or purposes in mind prior to and during the difficult conversation; how to use language in a way that is respectful and honest and; the how\, when and where of delivering difficult news to children and young people. The workshop will be very interactive and there will be ample opportunity to ask questions. Each participant will leave with a suggested structure and guidelines for a difficult conversation they may be planning in the future. \n

Over the two days the research evidence and practice approaches most likely to contribute to your clients long term recovery will be explored\, as well as opportunities provided to workshop these practice approaches using real life scenarios. \nComplex trauma is characterised by an array of adaptive responses to chronic and significant traumas of omission and commission. The collective evidence from neuroscientific advances\, the voices of victims/survivors\,  experienced clinicians and many service providers attest to the importance of a ‘lived experience’ understanding of the difficulties/symptoms/problems and adaptive coping strategies of people with complex trauma histories. \nConceptualising many presenting difficulties as adaptive responses or ‘normal responses to abnormal situations’ increases the empathy\, understanding and insight needed to effectively work therapeutically with people. \nThis training builds understanding\, knowledge and skills around the impacts of trauma on mind\, body and emotions as well as to adaptive responses. It also integrates advances in neuroscience\, lived experience and clinical wisdom to help build the capabilities of those attending to work compassionately and effectively with this client group. SUMMARY:Key Skills in Family Therapy
DESCRIPTION:Would you like to work more confidently and effectively with clients? Do you know how to troubleshoot when treatment gets “stuck”? \nBook a seat today to develop your family therapy skills to a deeper level. \nThis two-day workshop is aimed at practitioners who work with children\, young people\, adults\, couples\, families\, and/or organisations supporting clients with mental health issues. This workshop aims to introduce participants to core Family Therapy concepts and broaden practitioners understanding of how to view “the client’s problem”\, as well as provide practical skills and interventions for use with the client groups with which they work. It makes complex theory easy to grasp and the related techniques easy to implement. \nThe workshop is interactive\, dynamic\, experiential\, and self-reflective in nature. The presenters use a variety of teaching tools and modalities to enhance the learning experience\, make complex theory easy to grasp and the related techniques easy to implement. The facilitators offer wise and compassionate guidance on everything from intake and assessment to treatment planning\, the nuts and bolts of specific interventions\, the nuances of establishing therapeutic relationships\, and how to troubleshoot when treatment gets “stuck”. Pre-readings and post-workshop resources are available for ongoing learning and interest. \nDay One \nThe first day provides a solid foundation of key concepts and issues pertinent to Family Therapy\, and will provide participants with ideas on how to assess and formulate client problems from a Family Therapy perspective\, including the development of systemic hypotheses\, and begin integrating systemic ideas into client work. Exploration of how to use these techniques within a medical model is addressed\, and participants are taught how to develop and use systemic questions. \nDay Two \nThe second day builds on knowledge from Day One and provides participants with practical therapeutic skills from a variety of Family Therapy frameworks\, including Modern and Post-Modern schools. Linking theory to practice strongly features throughout each component of the workshop\, as does developing practical skills to take away from the workshop. \nThis two-day workshop has been delivered to several government and non-government agencies across Queensland and always receives very positive feedback. \nKate and Leonie specialise in child\, youth and family interventions with a background in Child and Youth Mental Health Services and Evolve Therapeutic Services. SUMMARY:PREPARE/ENRICH Core Training Day Adelaide (Magill)
DESCRIPTION:The Core Training Day includes all aspects of the Customized Version necessary to enable and accredit the Facilitator to use the material immediately. \nThe fee covers the programmed two day arrangement. It is preferable when the Core and Going Deeper Training days are run consecutively\, that participants attend both days. If that is not feasible or is not available\, you can attend the Going Deeper Training day within 12 months from the Core Training workshop\, as advertised on this website. \nWho may train to administer the inventories? \nPersons working with couples (eg. marriage celebrants\, educators\, counsellors) who already have formal training as a – \n\nPastor/priest/minister/rabbi.\nCounsellor/Psychologist\nEducator\nSocial Worker\nWorker trained in another relevant human resource discipline\n\nand – \n\nLay people\, who also have training in the above areas\, nominated by\, approved by\, and supervised by and accountable to leaders of the institution (eg. clergy\, pastors\, priests) within which they will work. We are prepared to train such individuals and couples but they need to be selected and nominated with care.  Just because they are church members and have participated in a PREPARE/ENRICH program as part of their own preparation for marriage is not a sufficient qualification.
