SUMMARY:Dyadic Developmental Practice with Dr Courtney Rennicke USA
DESCRIPTION:Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP) is an intervention model developed by Dan Hughes\, Clinical Psychologist (U.S.A.). DDP is family-based and is focused on facilitating the child’s readiness and ability to establish a secure attachment with his/her caregivers. It is called Dyadic Developmental Practice both to focus attention on the importance of reciprocity in parenting\, caregiving and therapy\, and also to draw attention to the fact that abuse\, neglect and trauma can seriously impact on the child’s developmental age and stage. This intervention is theoretically based on the models of attachment theory and intersubjectivity\, and is consistent with the needs of children and young people who have experienced developmental trauma. \nIt is an approach that: \n\nIntegrates recent research in the areas of neurobiology of trauma\, early child development and attachment theory\, to produce a therapeutic  and parenting approach that assists professionals to understand and effectively support children with trauma- attachment problems\, and their families\nCommunicates playfulness\, acceptance\, curiosity and empathy (PACE) in order to help the child regulate their feelings (often fear\, shame and anger) associated with past experiences and to create together new meanings to be integrated into the child’s life story (autobiographical narrative).\nRecognises the vital role which adoptive parents\, foster carers and residential workers play in the recovery of traumatised\, attachment-resistant children.\nProvides a set of principles that can support networks; inform and enrich parenting; and can support the child outside of the home eg. in residential settings and at school\n\nThis introductory 28-hour training course is relevant to professionals and therapists who have experience in communicating with and working therapeutically with children and young people and their families. It is focused on families and residential care homes when children have experienced past developmental trauma and have associated attachment difficulties. Principles and interventions are presented through formal discussion\, case examples\, videotape of therapy sessions\, role-play\, and hand-outs. This course is part of the pre-requisites to becoming a certified DDP practitioner. A MAXIMUM of 24 participants is permitted. \nBy the end of this course participants will understand: \n\nThe impact of secure developmental attachment on neurological\, affective\, cognitive\, and behavioural development\nHow developmental trauma (abuse and neglect) create insecure and disorganised attachment patterns which impede normal development\nPrinciples of psychotherapy\, effective communication and parenting that facilitate the development of attachment security\nSpecific strategies of parenting and communication that facilitate the development of a secure attachment and help children integrate past trauma and abusive experiences\nHow the caregiver’s attachment history and attachment patterns can be important factors when providing care for children who have experienced developmental trauma.\n\nDr Courtney Rennicke is a New York based Clinical Psychologist focusing on relationally-based and innovative psychotherapy for children and adults. Dr. Rennicke specialises in providing attachment-focused family treatment to adoptive and foster care children and their families. She the Co-Founder and President to the Adoption Foster Care Therapist Network\, a collective of mental health professionals specialising in attachment disorders in adoptive and foster care children and their families throughout New York State. She serves as the Board Member at Large for the United States and Treasurer for the board of the Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy Institute and is a certified in Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy Practitioner\, Consultant\, and Trainer. Dr. Rennicke also has advanced training in Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) for relational and attachment work with adults and Collaborative Problem Solving for emotional dysregulation and behavioral issues with children and adolescents. Dr. Rennicke has supervises and teaches clinical psychology externs\, clinical social workers\, post-doctoral fellows and psychiatry PGY-III residents in a range of treatment modalities at New York University Medical Center/Bellevue Hospital\, Teachers College/Columbia University\, and Yeshiva University. \n

DESCRIPTION:This workshop explores key skills for working effectively with men’s responses to conflict situations using a child centred approach. It explores practical ways workers can respond when working with men who experience high levels of conflict or use family violence in relationships. It focuses on early intervention work with these men so that they may access other behaviour change resources in their community. \n\nThis workshop explores how workers can better engage with men to increase their motivation to access further support to address family violence issues. It builds upon the worker’s experience and introduces a range of practical tools that can be used with clients in a variety of settings responses to conflict to build insight\, responsibility and change. \nIt focuses on: \n\nthe use of the domestic violence framework\nusing the generative approach to working with men and conflict/ family violence issues\nusing a child centred approach to support change\nways to focus on respectful relationship skills\ndifferences between anger management and family violence work\nsupporting men to access additional services\nusing response based approaches to create insight\, responsibility and greater safety\ntools and exercises to use when working with men to enable them to better regulate conflict issues.\n\n\n

DESCRIPTION:When under pressure\, what do you do? Return to 1st principles…\n\nGroup experiences are a foundation that builds healthy communities. As a society\, even though adult learning principles have existed for decades\, they are often not fully lived. The next cornerstone for group work is to remain strong on its core foundations and capture the evidence that demonstrates its worth with increasing focus on:\n\nMaking a difference in disadvantaged communities\nSupporting refugees\nEngaging youth\nTrauma Informed Practice\nReducing divisiveness in the community\nBuilding a greater sense of safety when people are afraid and vulnerable\nResponding to and reducing domestic violence.\n\nGroup work enables people to name and normalise their lived experience. It breaks open the stagnant hardened shells of their present perspective\, revealing ambiguity and opening up fresh ideas and options for exploration. Asking a question leads to a strategy for action that is a powerful contribution to resolving any problem. Asking questions and listening for the strategies and ideas embedded in people’s own answers can be the greatest service a social change worker can provide.\n\nThis conference will live and promote the following 1st principles:\n\nFocus on how group leaders apply new and existing learning that allows people to build on what they already know. We can help group members to access it\, amplify it\, and apply it rather than reiterating information already known.\nLearning occurs between group members as much as from the content or the group leader. Group work provides many more opportunities than just efficiency for delivering content to more people.\nDoes what we do make a difference? Evaluate the difference a group experience makes. Use a Program Logic Model to capture the essence of your program and its key outcomes and assumptions.\nGroup workers develop their own resilience and capacity for leadership yet work in a reflective and empowering way so that the benefits of group work are ultimately for the participants.\n\n

SUMMARY:Core Value Therapy (CVT) Workshop - Brisbane QLD
DESCRIPTION:Many people describe their experience with emotions like internal thoughts and emotions that often produces mental-ill health. These negative consequences are often blamed on others and are very rarely owned by clients. To encourage a deeper sense of self-discovery for clients the ‘Core Value Therapy’ CVT was developed. \nCVT aims to discover what drives our clients and dominates their thinking/feelings/emotions and behaviours. Core values are often hidden and discovering the core value must be unique to each client. When this occurs real change and deeper understanding can begin to dramatically change a client’s life. \nClients who have completed CVT improve their mental health\, behaviour and their relationships. \nCases will be presented at the workshop to demonstrate a wide variety of beneficial changes that include anger management\, reduction in suicide idealisation\, self-harm\, drug and alcohol recovery\, parenting\, personal and workplace relationships. CVT is ideally suited for therapists\, counsellors\, psychologists and psychiatrists. \nThe workshop includes: \n\nHow to help your clients unlock their core value using CVT model. This uses a strength base problem and solution focus approach and can dramatically improve mental health.\nEnable the practitioner to discover their core value as a self-reflection. This is a voluntary process and is highly recommend.
