SUMMARY:Young people and group work
DESCRIPTION:Young people are super-physical\, super-influenced by their emotions\, and respond super-impulsively to what’s going on around them. So with all this in mind this workshop will take you through a process that looks at how to harness all this for the good of a group. We will look at the skills\, ways of thinking and practical strategies needed to run/facilitate groups with teenagers who at times can be challenging and difficult. We will look at the pivotal idea of Engagement and how to maintain that engagement over time. This is what we will cover: \n\n\n\nExperience 15 + activities\nUse of music and video\, physical movement\, scaling activities\, super simple theatre activities\, drawing\, conversation and silence as part of groupwork\nHow to plan a group ‘on the run’ with very little time\nHow to work with young people who may seemingly\, be grumpy\, scared\, angry\, bored\, don’t want to talk and/or just don’t want to be there\nHow to create strategies for the verbal and the not-so verbal\, including drawing\, theatre-based action-based\, physical movement oh and yes…thinking and talking…\nEmbedding ‘learning’ within activities\nBlending process and content\nManaging the ‘difficult’ stuff\nRules without rules\nBeing surprising and unexpected\nGroups not as rehearsal for change/growth\, but as a real experience of change/growth/development.\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Engaging men’s responses to family violence
DESCRIPTION:This workshop explores key skills for working effectively with men’s responses to conflict situations using a child centred approach. It explores practical ways workers can respond when working with men who experience high levels of conflict or use family violence in relationships. It focuses on early intervention work with these men so that they may access other behaviour change resources in their community. \n\nThis workshop explores how workers can better engage with men to increase their motivation to access further support to address family violence issues. It builds upon the worker’s experience and introduces a range of practical tools that can be used with clients in a variety of settings responses to conflict to build insight\, responsibility and change. \nIt focuses on: \n\nthe use of the domestic violence framework\nusing the generative approach to working with men and conflict/ family violence issues\nusing a child centred approach to support change\nways to focus on respectful relationship skills\ndifferences between anger management and family violence work\nsupporting men to access additional services\nusing response based approaches to create insight\, responsibility and greater safety\ntools and exercises to use when working with men to enable them to better regulate conflict issues.\n\n\n
