DESCRIPTION:The first Men’s Behaviour Change Program Provider Network Conference in WA will be held from Monday 10 September to Tuesday 11 September 2018 at Technology Park Conference & Function Centre in Bentley\, WA. \nThe objective of the conference is to provide a platform for a unified voice to share\, network and collaborate on the challenges and successes of Men’s Behaviour Change Work. \n \nDay 1 The Network will come together\, providing the opportunity for conversations around what we do\, how far we have come and to share knowledge\, insight and research on Men’s Behaviour Change Programs (MBCPs). \nSpecial guest speaker\, The Hon Simone McGurk (The Minister for Child Protection; Women’s Interests; Prevention of Family and Domestic Violence; Community Services) will be launching the Outcomes Research Paper. \nDay 2 Stopping Family Violence will present the Safe & Together™ Model Overview. This one-day training will provide participants with an introduction to\, and overview of the CORE principles and critical components of the Safe & Together™ Model\, designed to support government and non-government agencies to work more effectively with perpetrators and/or families impacted by FDV. \nDownload Proposed Conference Agenda \n

SUMMARY:Managing Vicarious Trauma
DESCRIPTION:This new one-day workshop is for any staff who may be affected by the client’s accounts of distressing experiences to which they have been exposed or be affected by witnessing the impact on clients of these experiences. This could include staff working with the homeless\, women and children escaping domestic violence; individuals with a psychiatric disorder and those who have been subject to torture. The training covers: \n\nwhat is vicarious trauma;\nhow and why it occurs;\nits possible effects and;\nways of preventing and managing it.\n\nThe workshop is structured so that the participants move from one positive experience to another making the training enjoyable and interesting while at the same time examining and discussing important issues associated with good service provision and worker well-being. Detailed notes will be provided which will include a comprehensive reference list as well as links to a range of useful resources on the internet. At the end of the training the participants will: \n\nHave developed their understanding of vicarious trauma and developed their awareness of how to recognise it in themselves and in others;\nHave learnt strategies to make it less likely that they will develop vicarious trauma and manage it as well as possible when it does occur;\nHave developed their skills in supporting others who may be suffering from vicarious trauma while remaining in their role.\n\n
