SUMMARY:2nd Australia and New Zealand Refugee Trauma Recovery in Resettlement Conference
DESCRIPTION:2nd Australia and New Zealand Refugee Trauma Recovery in Resettlement Conference\n27-29 March 2019 Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre \nQPASTT is pleased to announce that the 2nd Australia and New Zealand Refugee Trauma Recovery in Resettlement Conference will be held at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre from 27-29 March 2019. \nThe conference theme\, Healing in Exile – Current and Future Challenges\, will explore the most innovative and successful ways to support people from refugee backgrounds as they recover from trauma and resettle in their new context. International keynote speakers will address global perspectives and prominent national identities will tackle some of the most pressing challenges here in Australia. \nConcurrent sessions and talking circles will allow delegates to meet colleagues with similar interests in small groups and the workshops will provide the benefit of practical\, “hands-on” learning. The voices of people from refugee backgrounds will be central to all aspects of the Conference program. \nThere will also be opportunities for networking both at the Conference and at the social events held at the world class venue – the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre (BCEC). The BCEC is ideally located in Brisbane’s unique riverside cultural and lifestyle precinct at South Bank. \nWe hope you can join us in Brisbane in March 2019 for three days of inspiration and knowledge sharing – your participation is vital to a great outcome. \n

SUMMARY:Freedom through Forgiveness
DESCRIPTION:Relationship Education and Therapeutic Group Work frequently focuses on developing communication and conflict management skills. But as Group Facilitators\, we have often had limited training to enable participants to experience healing in their ongoing relationships\, when core attitudes and actions of their loved ones cut into their souls and deeply wound them. \nThis workshop is a meaningful and personally enriching one\, created for YOU\, the Facilitator! Heather will guide you on your own personal exploratory journey so that by the end of the 2-days you will be equipped to utilise these powerful exercises with your group work participants. \nTwo concepts will be discussed to help us discover where our hurts may be coming from. “Soul Wounds” are a way to describe how situations hook into childhood scars or beliefs and we will look at these intense\, often unexpected and idiosyncratic reactions in terms of “Emotional Allergies”. \nForgiveness and making sincere apologies are essential ingredients in intimate\, casual and professional relationships. ‘Sorry’ certainly DOES seem to be the hardest word!  But often the “sorry” seems to inflame rather than resolve the issue.  A major reason is that we are speaking an apology language that does not seem genuine or sufficient to the offended party. These five Languages of Apology – Expressing Regret\, Accepting Responsibility\, Making Restitution\, Genuine repentance and Requesting forgiveness will be explored and experimented with. Participants will have the opportunity to discover their Language of Apology and work out ways of calibrating their apology so that it is effectively received. \nTo fully experience the power of genuine apology and forgiveness\, a plan and process of forgiveness will be presented to enable those hard\, ongoing conflicts and deep hurts to be finally put to rest. \nLearning Outcomes:\nAt the end of this course\, participants will be able to: \n\n appreciate the relevance and importance of restorative relationship work in group practice.\nunderstand some theoretical underpinnings and research from leaders in this field (e.g. Gary Chapman and John Gottman’s work).\nutilise powerful healing exercises for themselves and their group participants regarding soul wounds and emotional allergies.\nidentify and utilise the 5 key Languages of Apology.\nincrease awareness and develop strategies for enabling people to be constructive with themselves and each other when their core attitudes collide.\ndevelop a plan and process of forgiveness that enables growth and healing within oneself and within close relationships.\n\n

SUMMARY:Blend & Balance: Working with 'opposite' dynamics
DESCRIPTION:BLEND & BALANCE is actually a fairly simple\, yet extremely powerful way of approaching the important ‘things’ in people’s lives; grief and loss\, hopes and dreams\, hardship and joy. It is also an approach which is perhaps not always embraced because it is risky. And it is indeed risky to deliberately enlist laughter as a way of managing grief\, to see challenge as an ally in helping a vulnerable person flourish\, to look towards fantasy as a way of embracing reality. Yet this is both the nature of life and the approach of this workshop. Laughter may not be the first thing to consider when a person has experienced a tough moment in life; and it may never fit for some people in such times. But for others\, approached carefully and sensitively\, or perhaps even outrageously\, laughter brings relief. And it is working with powerful and risky dynamics such as this which is at the core of this workshop. \nDynamics of opposite create an atmosphere of the unusual; of juxtaposition\, of paradox\, of contrast and comparison; which bring into sharp relief what is and what could be; what is being noticed\, and what overlooked. The ‘softer’ ‘lighter’ aspects of these dynamics create relationship and connection; and an openness to experience the new\, the fresh\, the adventurous; both within ourselves and with the world around us. And standing next to the more ‘challenging’ aspects\, they together create ‘Readiness’ and ‘Receptivity’ in hearts and minds – the chance to review self and life and embrace fully what is\, or to explore what might be. Sounds a bit fanciful. It’s also true. \n
