DESCRIPTION:Fast\, challenging and fun… \nYoung people are super-physical\, super-influenced by their emotions\, and respond super-impulsively to what’s going on around them. So with all this in mind this workshop will take you through a process that looks at how to harness all this for the good of a group. We will look at the skills\, ways of thinking and practical strategies needed to run/facilitate groups with teenagers who at times can be challenging and difficult. We will look at the pivotal idea of Engagement and how to maintain that engagement over time. This is what we will cover: \n\n\n\nExperience 15 + activities\nUse of music and video\, physical movement\, scaling activities\, super simple theatre activities\, drawing\, conversation and silence as part of groupwork\nHow to plan a group ‘on the run’ with very little time\nHow to work with young people who may seemingly\, be grumpy\, scared\, angry\, bored\, don’t want to talk and/or just don’t want to be there\nHow to create strategies for the verbal and the not-so verbal\, including drawing\, theatre-based action-based\, physical movement oh and yes…thinking and talking…\nEmbedding ‘learning’ within activities\nBlending process and content\nManaging the ‘difficult’ stuff\nRules without rules\nBeing surprising and unexpected\nGroups not as rehearsal for change/growth\, but as a real experience of change/growth/development.\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Promoting the safety of children and young people with disability
DESCRIPTION:Children with disability have a nearly four times higher risk of experiencing abuse than their non-disabled peers. (AIFS 2017) \nIt is therefore\, crucial that organisations that work or engage with children and young people with disability make sure that their safety and wellbeing is prioritised. The National Principles for Child Safe Organisations (Principles) highlight the need for a child safety mindset that is inclusive and respectful of children and young people with different\, and that this is integrated throughout organisations. The Principles also emphasize the need for all children and young people to be informed about their rights and to participate in decisions affecting them. \nIn this webinar\, Prof Sally Robinson will share her knowledge and insight on how to minimize risks of abuse to children and young people with disability in an organisational context\, and how to provide opportunities for their participation in issues that affect them. \nLearning outcomes\n\nLearn how to strengthen organisational policies and practices to promote the safety of children and young people with disability in your organisation\nLearn how to promote inclusiveness and provide opportunities for participation of children and young people with disability\nGain an understanding of how to minimize the risk of abuse to children and young people in your organisation\n\nWho should attend?\nThis webinar is designed for professionals who work or engage with children or young people with disability at their workplace. \nThe National Principles for Child Safe Organisations are applicable to organisations in Australia where children and young people spend time\, including but not limited to community services\, education\, health\, retail\, not-for-profit\, sports and other industries. \nAbout the speaker\nDr Sally Robinson\, Professor in Disability and Community Inclusion\, Flinders University \nFocused on opportunities and barriers to inclusive lives for people with disability\, Sally’s work takes an interdisciplinary and collaborative focus to resolving key social policy concerns such as safety and abuse\, wellbeing\, participation and funding and organisation of community services. \nMost of Sally’s work has been co-produced with people with disability\, and generated from their priorities. This has taken the teams she works in into very interesting and important territory – relationships\, violence\, loneliness\, belonging\, quality of support – and also translated into new approaches to research and evaluation for government and NGOs. \n
