SUMMARY:Strengths-Based Practice with Multicultural and Diverse Young People: Working confidently across difference - eWorkshop -4 -Aug- 2026
DESCRIPTION:This interactive online workshop supports practitioners to work confidently\, relationally\, and ethically with multicultural and diverse young people\, without over-controlling\, stereotyping\, or avoiding difference. Grounded in strengths-based practice and cultural humility\, the workshop focuses on posture\, relationship\, and how practitioners show up in youth contexts shaped by identity\, power\, culture\, and political discourse. Rather than treating culture as something to master\, participants are invited into an ongoing practice of reflection\, curiosity\, and partnership. \n Across the workshop\, participants explore how deficit narratives and “risk” framings shape practice\, and how to shift toward approaches that recognise young people’s strengths\, agency\, cultural knowledge\, and contribution. The emphasis is on working with young people – holding safety and boundaries while creating conditions for belonging\, participation\, and influence. \n The workshop integrates reflective and practical components\, moving from awareness into application. Participants engage with real-world youth scenarios\, facilitation strategies\, and asset-based tools that can be applied immediately in groups\, programs\, consultations\, and participatory processes. \n Who should attend: \nThis workshop is designed for people working with\, for\, or alongside young people from multicultural\, culturally diverse\, racialised\, and faith-based backgrounds\, including youth workers\, facilitators\, managers\, policy and strategy staff\, youth development officers\, and others shaping youth-focused systems\, services\, or decisions. \n Participants will develop: \n\n\nGreater confidence working across difference without fear\, rigidity\, or avoidance \n\n\n\n\nA clear strengths-based and culturally humble frame for multicultural youth work \n\n\n\n\nPractical facilitation strategies that support inclusion\, participation\, and influence \n\n\n\n\nTools to recognise and mobilise young people’s strengths (head\, heart\, and hands) \n\n\n\n\nIncreased awareness of power\, positioning\, and adult authority in youth spaces \n\n\n\n\nApproaches for moving beyond tokenism toward meaningful participation \n\n\nWhen: Tuesday 4th August 2026 from 1.00pm- 4.00pm (AEST) \nWhere: Online eWorkshop via Zoom. If payment has been received\, you will receive the Zoom details in the week prior to the eWorkshop . \nCost: The early bird booking is $220.00 if registration occurs before 21st July (GST included). The fee for registrations after the 21st July is $275.00 (GST included). \nTo register: Register and complete payment. A Tax Invoice will be emailed to you. The payment needs to be completed before the workshop occurs\, for the registration to be fully confirmed \nFacilitator: Dimitrios Papalexis \nDimitrios Papalexis is a dynamic community leader\, counsellor\, and creative practitioner dedicated to empowering young people\, organisations\, and diverse communities to thrive.
