SUMMARY:Effective Group Leadership Workshop (2-days In-person)
DESCRIPTION: \nEffective Group Leadership is a 2-day workshop which develops the necessary skills for group leaders to facilitate creative group work. The training covers the principles of using creative group work techniques and tools. The focus includes changing group dynamics\, increased understanding of motivational group work models for change and the use of practical creative exercises. All participants receive a Group Leadership Skills Report on their strengths and areas for development plus a copy of Continual Change Groupwork: Being an effective group leader (2018). \n  \nEffective leadership is a powerful phenomenon that uses a group leader’s own self confidence and belief systems. This workshop explores the belief systems and interpersonal communication needed by leaders to create vision\, hope and a common purpose that unites the energy of the group members. The group leader’s subtle body language and self-presentation skills will be explored as they will impact on ultimate achievement of group members’ goals.  \nLearning Outcomes – Participants will: \n\nexplore the use of group facilitation skills\nidentify and practice the key skills used in facilitating strengths based group work\nuse experiential learning and creative adult education principles\nuse multi-sensory tools to increase motivation and support change\nrespond effectively to group dynamics and how to promote individual and group change\npractice strengths-based group work when responding to existing trauma\ndevelop skills in using flexibility in leadership roles\nunderstand key tasks/attitudinal responses that leaders attend to in the group\ndevelop their group leadership presence.\n\n

SUMMARY:Groupwork – The 4 Variations- Presenting\, Leading\, Facilitating\, and Train-the-trainer eWorkshop 3-May-2022
DESCRIPTION:These four approaches are all Groupwork processes – similar and overlapping\, yet quite different. In each of these\, the needs of the participants are always foremost and guide what we do\, yet how we do this varies enormously. This workshop will take you through all four processes. \n‘Presenting’: is more about the presenter’s content; who is seeking to pass something on; ideas\, information\, strategies… \n‘Leading’: is also about the leader’s content and they are taking people through it\, but constantly guided by input from participants and blending the two. \n‘Facilitating’: is all about the content of the participants. The facilitator helps others work through their concerns\, topics\, issues\, worries\, hopes or dreams. Ideally\, a very clear role for the facilitator is negotiated beforehand; and an essential part of this is being clear as to whether the facilitator is guided completely by the participants or whether the facilitator’s role is more ‘dynamic’ where they have permission to raise things which the group may have overlooked. This is a vital consideration particularly when the facilitator has experience/knowledge of the content area. \n‘Train the trainer’: “Train-the-Trainer” can refer to different processes\, so I thought I’d let you know just how I will be approaching it in this workshop. Person A (that’s you) has become very knowledgeable and skilled in your craft; and if you work in the community\, health or youth sectors\, you will be working with people in some way. So you are now training other workers; ie persons B in how to work with persons C (clients). And so you might want to know more about what are generally regarded as ‘Adult Learning Principles’\, about how to be engaging and interesting in how you train and about how to respond to potential questions and challenges from those you will be training. So if you are person A\, then this workshop might just be helpful to you. \nFacilitator: Peter Slattery \nPeter has worked with individuals\, families and communities for over 30 years. He lives in Sydney\, but works throughout Australia as well as Asia\, Europe and North America. He has written ‘Youth works’ and produced the training DVD ‘Conversations with young people’\, and most recently the group work resource ‘THOUGHTPICS’. He strives constantly to find or develop new\, exciting and ever more useful ways of helping people explore what troubles or inspires them. In this quest\, he calls on anything that might be helpful; physical movement\, theatre\, storytelling\, drawing\, what might be called ‘humour’ and really\, anything at all that might add something to this process. Peter says “what a totally challenging joy all of this is”! \nFeedback from previous workshops \nWe collect feedback from participants at the conclusion of each workshop we facilitate.
