SUMMARY:Collaborative projects and vulnerable young people: a practical discussion 10-May-2022
DESCRIPTION:Ever been trying to organise stuff for vulnerable young people and you say… what do you want? And they say\, Let’s get a skatepark! But none of them skate???!!! What is that about? \nThis eWorkshop is aimed at developing the skills of participants who are wanting to create collaborative projects with vulnerable young people. These could be creative projects\, community action projects\, issue or advocacy based projects. \n\n\nAt the end of the workshop participants will: \nGain knowledge\, insight and ideas about: \n\n\nDifferent models of collaboration \n\n\nThe strengths and pitfalls of using democratic methods when it comes to collaboration projects that involve vulnerable young people. \nIncrease their professional practice capability through: \n\n\n\n\nConsidering a person centred approach when it comes to creating collaboration \n\n\nConsidering the stages to achieve effective collaborations and applying that knowledge to projects with vulnerable young people. \n\n\nExploring why collaboration is such an effective way of enabling outcomes for young people. \n\n\nWhen: Tuesday\, 10th May 2022 from 9.30am to 12.30pm each day. \nWhere: Online eWorkshop via Zoom. You will receive the Zoom details when payment is received. \nCost: The early bird booking is $195.00 (GST incl) if registered before 26 April If registering after 26 April then the Full Price is $250.00 (GST incl). Several of those young people now work for the Company Phil co-founded… Beyond Empathy. Phil has a Diploma of Mental Health… as well as a degree in Film and Television. \nPhil is renowned for his creative and lateral approaches to intractable problems. He won the Inaugural Justice Fellowship for the Arts from the NSW Law Foundation for the domestic violence prevention project where he collaborated with young people from regional towns in NSW to make a film: HURT\, which also won an Australian Film Institute Award\, a Film Critics Circle of Australia Award and screened on SBS. \nPhil has worked with young people in diverse places from Kalgoorlie WA\, to the mining towns on the West Coast Tasmania\, from Bourke and Moree to the Western suburbs of Sydney and the Gold Coast. \nAs a speaker and facilitator Phil has appeared at Festivals and Conferences in diverse locations including The Australian Centre for the Moving Image\, Flickerfest\, Accessible Arts Conference\, The Australian Documentary Conference. He has also run numerous training sessions for teachers\, TAFE students\, school students and young people on Youth Insearch Camps. \nHeath Ducker wrote about the impact Phil has on him in his book A Room at the Top (Random House 2009) Heath met Phil when he was a young person growing up in a housing commission area in Western Sydney. Heath is a Lawyer and CEO and has been and advisor to the NSW Attorney General. He has also appeared in an Australian story program about his life. \n\n\n\n\n\n“Phil affected kids’ lives all over the neighbourhood. He demonstrated how significant an impact one person can have on those around them. He had an amazing ability to build a smooth and solid rapport with young people. He was without pretence. He undertook his work with genuine heart and purpose. These are not concepts that I necessarily understood at the age I first came into contact with him but\, as children\, we knew intuitively that this guy was for real. ” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Phil started running self-esteem classes at my school. I adored them. He remembers me as one of the most enthusiastic\, honest and articulate participants. He realised that\, when I had a passion for something\, I could break through my shyness and give it my all.\nThen he introduced evening groups for local parents and kids at the community centre. Phillip built relationships with children’s parents too. He realised that nothing could be accomplished without the parents’ support. So he brought together a community of children and adults\, and inspired them to work together for a common purpose – the children’s welfare.” \n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Assessing for Parenting Capacity eWorkshop- 10 and 17 May-2022
DESCRIPTION:This eWorkshop is for anyone who works with children\, young people and their families whose role it is to assess the capacity of the parent or parents to care for their child and use this assessment to plan an effective intervention\, where needed\, to improve the parenting that the child or young person receives. \nThe webinar will cover: \n\n\nthe dimensions of parenting capacity; \n\n\ndifferent sources of information that may be used to assess for parenting capacity and how to integrate that information into a well formulated plan; \n\n\nobservation and interviewing skills in relation to assessing for parenting capacity; \n\n\nthe dimensions of parent-child interaction; \n\n\nobservation and interviewing skills in relation to assessing parent-child interaction and; an introduction to preparing reports on parenting capacity and parent-child interaction. \n\n\nThe workshop will also include information on giving evidence in court. \nAt the end of the training the participants will: \n\n\nhave developed their understanding of the different dimensions of parenting capacity; \n\n\nunderstand the need to obtain information\, where possible\, through a range of methods and sources when assessing for parenting capacity; \n\n\nhave developed their skills in case notes and record keeping and in report writing; \n\n\nbe better able to provide evidence in court. \n\n\nAs most of us know by now\, online training can be tiring when conducted over one day. To combat this\, we have arranged the 6 hours of training spread out over two Tuesdays to ensure engagement and reduce workshop fatigue. \nWhen: Tuesday 10th May and 17th May 2022 from 9.30am to 12.30pm each day. \nWhere: Online eWorkshop via Zoom. The payment needs to be completed before the workshop occurs\, for the registration to be fully confirmed. \nFacilitator: David Cherry \nDavid Cherry is a Clinical and Forensic Psychologist who has been working for over 40 years. David worked for over 14 years with children\, young people and their families where the children could not live at home because of concerns over abuse and neglect. During that time David was responsible for working with the parents to assist them in developing their capacity to care for their children. In addition\, David was responsible\, with others\, for supporting the staff caring for the children to provide the best environment possible while the children were in out of home care. \n
