Roadmap to Ethical Compliance (1-day) Workshop – Blacktown, NSW

Managing the complex ethical and compliance issues that come with work in the community sector, whether this be with staff, clients, stakeholders or even government officials, can divert your precious energy and resources away from your mission and clients. As some organisations have experienced, not getting it right can also mean reputational damage and/or deregistration as a charity.
This workshop shows that developing industry proven compliance tools and techniques for dealing is easier than you think and will position you and your organisation well in the market as government pushes ahead with sector reforms.
This course will help you:
- Get your team/staff working off the same page when it comes to professional and ethical conduct in the organisation and in the field.
- Promote the integrity of your organisation, understand and meet government and Australian Charities and Not-for-profit Commission (ACNC) governance requirements and build your organisation’s reputation in the market place.
- Hold local, state and federal government officials accountable to the community and to your clients, e.g., know how to approach suspected corruption, maladministration and government waste without risking your funding support/relationships.
- Identify organisational/staff integrity red-flags.
- Manage complex conflicts of interests when working with your community, including staff working with their own cultural community or board members’ relationships with service recipients.
- Deal effectively with allegations against your service in a way that that builds your good reputation in the community and with government.
- Understand and deal with government probity and accountability requirements.
- Learn the principles of internal investigations and anti-corruption.
Target Group: Board members, Managers, Coordinators, Field workers, HR and risk and compliance workers.
Participants will gain:
- Ability to diagnose, analyse and treat professional and ethical conduct issues, including the ability to identify red-flags and to support staff and clients through such matters.
- Understanding of the relevant NFP governance compliance responsibilities of the Australian Charities and Not-for-profit Commission (ACNC) and of government and how to meet them.
- A road map to building an integrity framework for the organisation, including establishing Codes of Conduct, whistle-blowing procedures, conflicts of interest management policies and techniques, a gifts and benefits policy, a Statements of Business Ethics, internal investigations processes, and audit and risk linkages.
- Knowledge of government obligations and accountability frameworks, including how to report suspected maladministration, corruption or waste by government.
- Tips and techniques for building and maintaining a reputation for organisational integrity.

Cost: The early bird booking is $242.00 before 17 July (GST included). The fee for registrations after the 17 July is $297.00 (GST included). Morning tea and lunch are provided.

Facilitator: David Burfoot BA MPS
David is the Director and founder of Ethical Orgs which provides training and consulting on organisational integrity frameworks. This includes helping organisations and PPPs comply with good practice and regulatory requirements in relation to ethical practices, accountability, transparency, anti-corruption/fraud, probity risk management and audit. David has a Masters in Policy Studies from the University of New South Wales and has worked across the not-for-profit, government, and private sectors for organisations as diverse as Cabramatta Community Centre (youth worker and Coordinator of Youth Services), the United Nations Development Program (Community Development Specialist), Deloitte, the NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption, Sydney University and as an anti-corruption specialist with a number of government agencies. He has an in-depth knowledge not only from a regulator’s perspective but also as a practitioner, working to make programs and frameworks operate successfully within organisations, communities and program environments. He has also managed strategic planning, change, corporate projects and internal communication strategies for large and small organisations.
