The focus of the training is on teaching the participants simple, practical strategies for assisting individuals who are sad, upset, bewildered, angry, or confused.

The Occasional Counsellor™ training is for anyone who wants to learn to support others who may be acutely emotionally distressed.
The focus of the training is on teaching the participants simple, practical strategies for assisting individuals who are sad, upset, bewildered, angry, or confused.
The training covers:

preparing psychologically to work in difficult environments
-
the skills of the helper including communication skills
-
tips on keeping yourself safe during home visits and site visits
-
the difference between emotional support and counselling
-
simple, practical strategies for supporting individuals who may be acutely emotionally distressed including people who may be suicidal
-
self-care for the worker
The training will be highly interactive and the participants will be encouraged to ask questions at any time.

When: Tuesday, 17th September 2024 from 9:30am to 12.30pm.(AEST)
Where: Online eWorkshop delivered via Zoom. You will receive the Zoom details one week prior to the eWorkshop.
Cost: The early bird booking is $195.00 registration (GST included) if registered before 3rd September 2024, if registered after the 3rd September 2024 then the Full Price is $250.00.
To register: Register and complete payment. A Tax Invoice will be emailed to you. The payment needs to be completed before the workshop occurs, for the registration to be fully confirmed.
Facilitator: David Cherry
The training will be run by David Cherry a Clinical and Forensic Psychologist who has been working for over 40 years. David has provided training for staff in health, education, aged
care, disability, and those working with the homeless on looking after people who are acutely emotionally distressed. He has also provided training for emergency services staff
on supporting others after difficult incidents. David was a volunteer with the Victorian SES for 4 years during which time he was involved in road crash rescue, searches, assisting people after storms, and other duties.
