Working with families to minimise alcohol-related harm webinar

October 27 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm AEDT

Alcohol consumption is a part of Australian culture, which means it can be difficult for professionals working in child and family support to identify and discuss alcohol-related harm with families. Harm can occur at different levels of alcohol use and is not always proportionate to the amount consumed.

This webinar will explore how to identify and engage families at risk of alcohol-related harm through adopting a harm-minimisation approach that supports people to minimise the negative consequences of alcohol. Specifically, it will:

  • outline the evidence on the risk factors associated with alcohol-related harm
  • describe what a harm-minimisation approach is and the evidence for actions to minimise alcohol-related harms
  • provide strategies to help practitioners identify and engage families at risk of, or experiencing, alcohol-related harm
  • explore how collaborative care between general services and specialised alcohol and other drugs services can support these families.

This webinar will be of interest to professionals working in child and family support who may not have specialist knowledge or training in alcohol and other drugs.

This webinar builds on the CFCA paper: Alcohol-related harm in families and alcohol consumption during COVID-19.
