WHO IS THE WORKSHOP FOR?
The workshop is for domestic violence organisations, community services and charities; the frontline first-responders to incidents of domestic and family violence; for welfare workers who want to improve skills in working with victims and intimate partner abusers; and for mental health workers who want to gain deeper insights into the mechanics behind sustained patterns of domestic abuse.
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN in attending our 3-hour workshop?
-
You’ll learn what distinguishes those abused in childhood who grow up to be non-abusive parents or partners from those who go on to become abusers.
-
You’ll learn that the same three key factors:
1) Perpetrators tend to deny and/or normalise their own childhood experience of abuse;
2) They do not see how they have been damaged by their experiences of abuse, so they discount the damage they do to their victims;
3) They link abuse with pleasure; can help us to understand transgenerational DFV.
-
You’ll also learn about the Father Wound, and how men who perpetrate intimate partner violence – but recognise the impact of their violence and interparental conflict on their children – can reduce transmission of IPV across generations.
