FRSA National Conference 2026
Showcasing: Practice, Evidence, Impact
The FRSA National Conference is a highlight event for the family and relationship services network and is one of the largest annual gatherings in Australia of practitioners, academics and policy makers working to support children, families and communities. This ‘not to be missed’ event will feature a number of highly acclaimed keynote presenters, federal ministers and sector leaders, with a focus on delivering the most effective services to children, adults and families.
The theme for the FRSA National Conference 2026, Showcasing: Practice, Evidence, Impact, recognises the breadth of work undertaken across the sector and its measurable impact on families, children, and communities. The Conference will be held at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre on 18-21 May 2026.
With the federal government contemplating changes to the commissioning of community services, they have expressed a commitment to evidence-based decision making. It is therefore timely to reflect on what is working in our sector, why it works, and to share the outcomes of these interventions.
The FRSA National Conference 2026 provides a platform to showcase and learn from on the ground practice, policy, and research. The Conference is the must-attend event for anyone passionate about family and relationship services.
CALL FOR ABSTRACTS - CLOSED
Family & Relationship Services Australia (FRSA) invites you to submit an abstract to present at the FRSA National Conference 2026, which will be held at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, 18-21 May.
The theme for the FRSA National Conference 2026, Showcasing: Practice, Evidence, Impact, recognises the breadth of work undertaken across the sector and its measurable impact on families, children, and communities.
With the federal government contemplating changes to the commissioning of community services, they have expressed a commitment to evidence-based decision making. It is therefore timely to reflect on what is working in our sector, why it works, and to share the outcomes of these interventions.
The Conference will provide an opportunity for the sector to share:
- the ways you are working to meet the needs of children, adults, families and communities
- the evidence underpinning and emerging from practice
- the impact that different practices and approaches generate for the people accessing services – and for your local communities.
The FRSA National Conference 2026 provides a platform to showcase and learn from on the ground practice, policy, and research. The Conference is a highlight event for the family and relationship services network and will, as always, deliver a prime opportunity to share the impressive work of the sector.
We welcome abstracts that speak to the conference theme – Showcasing: Practice, Evidence, Impact.
In preparing and making your submission, you are asked to select and position your abstract within one of the five following streams:
- The early years
(e.g. preconception to birth, the birth of a child, impact on family relationships and transitions into parenting, early child development, and school readiness). - Children and young people at the centre
(e.g. child-focused and child-inclusive practice, supporting children and young people’s participation in policy development, service design and evaluation, school transitions, the safety and wellbeing of children and young people). - Relationship breakdown and re-partnering
(e.g. family legal services, family dispute resolution, parenting after separation and sustaining the best interests and wellbeing of children, sole-parenting, tensions in extended family relationships). - Family Domestic Violence
(e.g. identifying and managing family violence risk, child maltreatment, perpetrator interventions, adolescents using violence in the home, elder abuse). - Across the lifecourse
(e.g. diverse and changing family structures, developing and maintaining respectful relationships, social connection, intersectionality and inclusion).
We are a rich and diverse society, and FRSA encourages presentations that show our sector’s work with different cohorts and communities – First Nations peoples, culturally and linguistically diverse peoples, people with disability and LGBTIQA+ people – and other cohorts who may face particular challenges in accessing safe and appropriate services.
To submit your Abstract, please review the Abstracts Guidelines & Assessment Criteria below which outlines all abstract information and assessment criteria and submit your Abstract via the button below.
For more information about submitting an abstract, please contact FRSA Manager of Policy and Research, Dr Robyn Clough at policy@frsa.org.au or (02) 6162 1811.
All Abstracts must be submitted online by 11:59pm AEDT, Wednesday, 5 November 2025 EXTENDED TO 11:59PM AEDT, WEDNESDAY 12 NOVEMBER 2025
30 MINUTE PRESENTATIONS
Concurrent sessions are 30 minutes in length, including Q&A and can be interactive with the audience or with minimal interaction. Abstracts for a 30-minute presentation must be between 200 and 400 words in length.
SYMPOSIUM OPTION
Staying within the Abstract guidelines outlined above, you may team up with three to five others to submit an abstract for a symposium. A symposium comprises a series of presentations organised around a common theme to engage the audience in critical reflection on key issues and questions relevant to the topic area. The duration of a symposium is around 90 minutes to allow time for three to five presenters to share and for discussion among attendees.
We encourage symposiums in which presenters and moderators/discussants represent different perspectives, such as from policymakers, practitioners, and academics.
To submit an abstract for a symposium there is no need for each presenter to submit an abstract. Each symposium requires a primary organiser who is the chair and will serve as the single point of contact in the submission process. Submissions must detail who the primary organiser is and who the other presenters are. The primary organiser must collate and order the presenters’ ideas in a way that will best engage attendees, with the symposium abstracts being between 500 and 800 words.

Pre-conference Workshops will be held on Monday, 18 May 2026, commencing at 10am. It will comprise of three workshops. More details on each workshop coming soon.
Please note workshops are only open to FRSA Members.
CfC FP Pre-Conference workshop
FRSA has decided not to host a standalone Communities for Children Facilitating Partner (CfC FP) Pre-Conference workshop as the pre-conference workshop that will be delivered by AIFS is geared towards, and will be of strong interest to, the CFC FP network. The AIFS workshop, which is designed for practitioners to strengthen their applied skills to practice improvement, will introduce a new Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) framework that was originally designed for CfC FP and then broadened to meet the needs of the wider child and family sector. Aspects of the new framework were workshopped with the CfC FP network at their pre-conference workshop in 2025 and a working group of CfC FP providers also assisted with the development process. The workshop provides an opportunity for the network to see the fruition of this important piece of work and learn how to apply the MEL framework in their own organisations. The workshop will be open to the broader FRSA membership.
Embedding practice improvement and monitoring, evaluation & learning (MEL) for evidence-informed child and family services
(FRSA MEMBERS ONLY)
Presenters: Australian Institute of Family Studies
This full-day workshop is designed for practitioners in the child and family service sector seeking to strengthen their applied skills in structured approaches to practice improvement. Participants will be introduced to a newly developed framework integrated with a Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) approach. Together, these tools support reflective practice, enhance service delivery, and promote alignment with evidence-informed program design.
Child and family services operate in complex environments, where practitioners must balance immediate client needs with long-term goals and sector reforms. Embedding a practice improvement approach—grounded in continuous learning and adaptation—enables teams to reflect on what works, for whom, and under what conditions. When combined with MEL principles, this approach supports monitoring fidelity, tracking outcomes, and generating insights to inform both frontline practice and strategic decisions.
The workshop will explore how this integrated approach can be applied in real-world settings, using case examples and interactive sessions. Participants will build confidence in identifying priority areas for improvement, developing indicators, collecting data, and using findings to guide iterative changes to practice.
By the end of the day, attendees will be equipped to:
- Reflect on and strengthen their own practice;
- Monitor service delivery and client outcomes;
- Align with evidence-informed approaches;
- Gather evidence to help demonstrate impact to funders, partners, and communities.
This workshop is ideal for practitioners, team leaders, and service managers across the Families and Children Activity who are committed to improving outcomes for children and families. It offers a hands-on opportunity to build capability and connect with peers navigating similar challenges.
