Managing Vicarious Trauma in Groupwork

November 8, 2019 - November 9, 2019

$275

Following on from “Vicarious Trauma: Could it happen to you?“ this workshop focuses on the group process and dynamics involved when the group facilitator, the clients, or both, have been impacted by vicarious trauma. In this one-day workshop the following areas will be covered:

  • As a group leader, how do you effectively facilitate a group where participants are suffering from VT?
  • How do group leaders who have personally experienced VT effectively facilitate a group? Is our personal experience a hindrance or a help?
  • What do group leaders need to do to protect themselves from taking on the vicarious trauma that the group is holding?

By attending this workshop, participants will:

  • Become more knowledgeable about working in a trauma informed way in a group setting
  • Be able to look at and hold a personal experience while also holding the group
  • Identify when there is the need to self-protect and learn a variety of self-care methods to keep the trauma present in the room where it can be attended to.

Suitable for: Counsellors and/or group workers working in the field of trauma or those who are interested in this area of work and the impact that vicarious trauma can have on the helping professions.
