The Global Alcohol Policy Conference 2017

October 4, 2017 @ 9:00 am - October 6, 2017 @ 6:00 pm AEDT

The Global Alcohol Policy Conference makes its first appearance Down Under

In just 33 days, world-leading leading alcohol policy makers, researchers and practitioners will descend upon Melbourne for the first time, from 4-6 October, for the annual Global Alcohol Policy Conference (GAPC2017), to tackle the universal challenge of eradicating alcohol harm. GAPC2017 will forge links between evidence and action, using rigorous policy research to inform effective responses at local, state, national and international levels to reduce harm caused by alcohol.

The theme of GAPC2017 – Mobilising for Change – Alcohol policy and the evidence for action – recognises the increasing momentum around the world to stop harm caused by alcohol. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that alcohol consumption was responsible for 3.3 million deaths, or six per cent of all deaths globally in 2012, and is associated with a multitude of short and long-term health risks.

The three-day conference, along with Pre-Conference Symposiums on 3 October, will explore a range of themes, including advocacy and leadership, emerging and innovative research, and vested interests.

The conference will also see a diverse range of policy, health and research experts and keynote speakers shed light on research and personal experience, and how to reinvigorate efforts to reduce alcohol-related harm worldwide. The draft program is available here.

[GAPC2017 is hosted by the Foundation for Alcohol Research and Education (FARE), Public Health Association of Australia (PHAA), the National Alliance for Action on Alcohol (NAAA), and Global Alcohol Policy Alliance (GAPA).]
