Pre-Conference Workshop
Trauma and Healing Informed Care
Abstract:
Why Trauma and Healing Informed Care?
When we consider the complexities of trauma and its impact on our first peoples, it becomes clear that a balanced approach to care is essential. Trauma and Healing Informed Care recognises the pervasive effects of trauma and prioritises the creation of a safe, supportive environment for healing. This approach acknowledges that trauma can affect anyone and manifests in various ways, influencing thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and relationships with others, all held within a system; for better or worse!
By implementing Trauma and Healing Informed Care, organisations can foster resilience, empower individuals, and promote a holistic recovery process. This approach is not only about recognising and addressing trauma but also about building systems and cultures that support healing and growth. It encourages a shift away from viewing trauma solely as a pathological issue to understanding it as an opportunity for transformation and empowerment, ultimately leading to healthier, more connected communities.
Participants will learn to:
Realise the widespread impact of trauma and understand potential paths to healing.
Recognise the signs and symptoms of trauma in clients, families, staff, and systems.
Respond by focusing on safety in self to share with others; and to reflect this in policies, procedures, and protocols. Reduce further re-traumatisation of clients, staff. organisations and systems.
Reconnect to the healing powers within.
Restoration of connections to body & behaviours, mind & emotions, family & kinship, culture & community, country & land and spirit, spirituality & ancestors.
What can participants expect?
Our training can be challenging. You might have feelings of sadness or worry. We practice what we facilitate, and will endeavour to care for all of our participants in a culturally safe way.
